How the speakers series came to be

By: Ed September 13, 2009

The idea behind the speakers series came as Mike and I were driving home from Podcamp Ohio on June 20, 2009. We had just spent the entire day in great conversations with fascinating people doing some really exciting things.

As we debriefed on the different sessions, we kept saying, “we need to talk to so and so client about that” or “isn’t what’s her name doing some stuff like that” or “that would really help this organization.”

We said to ourselves, “someone should organize speakers in Lorain County to share their experiences and get the conversation started about how this amazing, evolving technology can be so beneficial to so many people, businesses and organizations.”

We decided our dream line-up would be Lewis Howes, Shawn Morton and Tom Wanek as our speakers. Lewis would go first because it was personal, Shawn second applying the concepts to business and Tom third to speak about the importance and value of credibility. Note, this isn’t Monday morning quarterbacking; this was our exact plan on that drive.

Instead of 1 day with all of the speakers, we thought it would be beneficial to spread it out over a few months so there would be time to absorb, discuss and implement the ideas and concepts.

At this point we were so excited, that we had to see it through. We decided that instead of waiting for someone else to put this together, we should do the heavy lifting, help organize the series and find partners to help get the word out.

In August when all 3 speakers agreed to come to Lorain County, we were thrilled. When LCCC Spitzer Conference Center was available for the 2nd Wednesday of each month October, November and December, we knew we were committed. This past week, as we’ve been fortunate to find some great partners, the excitement just continues to grow.

Hope to see you at the events.
